Surgical patients of ours all get IV catheters with IV fluids to insure the body is hydrated during the procedure. Also, a veterinary technician/ assistant will be with your pet during the entire procedure and during recovery time. Surgical services and facilities include: fully trained veterinary and technical staff. To ensure the safest, most efficient, state-of-the-art procedures for your pet advanced sterilization techniques, ECG and oxygen saturation monitors, blood pressure monitors, and intensive after surgery care until your pet goes home. |
INTERNAL MEDICINE Here at Mangrove Veterinary Hosptial, we offer a specialty in internal Medicine. Dr. Portillo, our Internal Medicine Specialist, did additional training as an internship and residency and passed a specialty board exam. She is the only internal medicine specialist between Redding and the Sacramento/ Davis area. She takes referrals for specialty procedures like ultrasound or endoscopy. She also takes referrals for those challenging cases in which your general veterinarian would like a second opinion or more intensive critical care management. Internal medicine covers cases including endocrinology (diabetes), gastroenterology (inflammatory bowel disease), kidney diseases, liver diseases, nasal or lung problems, and heart disease. We also offer chemotherapy for cancer treatment. Dr. Portillo works primarily on referral but will take emergencies when needed. |
EMERGENCY AND CRITICAL CARE In any emergency, seconds count. Our experienced staff is backed up by our mobile resuscitation unit, stocked and equipped to administer the ABCs of basic life support – Airway, Breathing, Circulation/Cardiac compressions. Emergency care is offered during regular business hours. In addition, we use the services of a local, fully staffed emergency center. |
PAIN MANAGEMENT Veterinary patients feel pain and discomfort under the same circumstances as people do. We know that recognizing and alleviating pain in animals is the essence of good patient care and we have a variety of safe, effective pain control available for your pets. |
DENTAL CARE Pets can develop dental disease and other dental problems. Many of these problems can be avoided by bringing your pet in for regular dental checkups and giving your pet dental care at home. Regular professional cleanings are important in maintaining your pet's dental health. We use modern and safe ultrasound to clean each tooth thoroughly. We also include digital dental radiographs so we can see what’s going on above the gum line. We also chart every patient’s mouth just like when you go to the dentist. Dental technicians polish teeth to create a smooth, lustrous tooth surface more resistant to plaque buildup. Fluoride treatments help strengthen enamel and reduce tooth sensitivity. |
ULTRASOUND |
This non-invasive, state-of-the-art technology uses sound waves to painlessly examine specific internal organs, primarily the heart and abdominal organs. Pregnancy exams are also available.
